بعد إعلان "لاند روفر" عن عزمها على الانتقال بطراز "ال ار اكس" الاختباري ذو التصميم المتميز إلى مرحلة الانتاج تحت شعار "رانج روفر", أكد مدير تسويق الشركة البريطانية بمنطقة أمريكا الشمالية كريس مارشاند أن لضمان نجاح ذلك الطراز فإن هناك حاجة أيضا لطرح فئة منه مزودة بخمسة أبواب بجانب الطراز المرتقب ذو الأبواب الثلاثة والذي يمكن توصيفه بأنه طراز صغير نسبيا عند مقارنتها بطرازات روفر.

ويعد الطراز الجديد لـ لاندروفر" ذو الأبعاد الانسابية والذي وضع التفاصيل الخاصة بشكله الخارجي مدير التصميم السابق في "لينكولن" طرازا رياضيا بثلاثة أبواب.

ويؤكد مسئول التصميم الخاص بطراز "ال ار اكس" جيري مك جوفرن أن ذلك الطراز الذي تم تصنيعه على أساس نفس منصة طراز "ال ار 2" يمكن أن يتحول إلى مرحلة الإنتاج لكونه حاليا طرازا اختباريا وذلك من خلال إدخال بعض التعديلات في الشكل الجمالي الخاص بالسيارة وبصورة محدودة.
